Peter Spruyt is a multi-talented Los Angeles based actor, stand-up comedian and writer.He has shown his great versatility in numerous TV and film roles with guest starring credits on "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," "Better Off Ted," and "My Name Is Earl." He can now be seen regularly on the new, highly anticipated USA Network show, "Benched," opposite Eliza Coupe ("Happy Endings"), Jay Harrington ("Better Off Ted"), Oscar Nunez ("The Office"), Maria Bamford ("Adventure Time") and Carter MacIntyre ("Drop Dead Diva") who portrays the star's nemesis. The show is slated to premiere Tuesday, October 28th at 10:30 PM/ 9:30 PM (CT).What started out as a guest-starring role for Spruyt on the single-camera comedy about a high-powered corporate lawyer's fall from grace (Coupe) into the rough and tumble world of public defenders where she must learn to connect with her co-workers, soon turned into the regular role of 'Boring Larry,' the office nebbish you can't help but love. "Benched," from executive producers and writers Michaela Watkins ("Saturday Night Live," "Trophy Wife") and Damon Jones ("Halfway Home"), settles into its Tuesday 10:30 PM night slot on the USA Network beginning Nov 4th and will run into early 2015.On the big screen, Peter can be seen in the feature film "Rudderless," William H. Macy's directorial debut portraying 'Alaird Dupree,' in the key role of the marina manager who provides welcome comic relief. Premiering first at this year's Sundance Film Festival where it gained critical acclaim for both the film's poignancy and Macy's impressive directorial debut, "Rudderless:" stars Billy Crudup, Anton Yelchin, Felicity Huffman, Selena Gomez and Laurence Fishburne and opens this Friday, October 17th across the country. Spruyt's early film work ranges from roles in "Men in Black II" to "Down with Love."As a stand-up, Peter has been featured on "Jimmy Kimmel Live," Comedy Central's "Premium Blend," and numerous festivals, including The Chicago Comedy Festival, "Just for Laughs," the Montreal Comedy Festival, The Bridgetown Comedy Festival and The Bentzen Ball in Washington DC. He has performed in clubs and casinos throughout the country.Peter was born in Addis Abeba, Ethiopia, and grew up in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Hestudied theater at Northwestern University and trained with the world-famous Groundlings Theater in Los Angeles.His first foray producing a major charity event, "Krullapalooza" at the Wiltern Theater last spring in honor of his late wife, Suzanne Krull, featured Tig Notaro, Zach Gallifianakis, Patton Oswalt, Reggie Watts and Ian Harvie, and raised money for TransYouth Speak, an organization that benefits transgender youth. He continues to be active with Peace Action West, California League of Conservation Voters, The Human Rights Campaign, Planned Parenthood, NOW and the ACLU.Peter is engaged to the actress, Sally Brooks.
