    Desirae Embree PopMatters

All things considered, "Fires from Heaven" was a disappointing follow-up to last week's episode. There is a point when perpetual plot twists become predictable, and non-stop drama becomes rather boring.

    Phoebe Robinson Vanity Fair
    October 08, 2015

You know what else was good good? Last night's episode of Empire entitled "Fires of Heaven."

    Whitney Evans TV Fanatic
    October 08, 2015

The thing is Empire Season 2 Episode 3 was a really strong installment, even though I was basically annoyed the entire hour. That's a testament to just how good this show can be.

Brooke Pawling Stennett The Young Folks
    October 08, 2015

The plot of the episode was predictable... Despite this, the actors in the show never let the inevitable story line get the best of them.

    Lauren Chval RedEye
    October 08, 2015

"Fires of Heaven" didn't have as many OMG moments as the first two episodes of the season, but with Luscious out of prison, the show was able to get back to the bubbling soapy inter-family conflict that makes it half Shakespeare, half Dynasty.

    Sean T. Collins Rolling Stone
    October 08, 2015

In a brother-against-brother civil-war showdown that's pure fantasy, cameos by two gigantic hip-hop hitmakers add some factual spice. Three episodes into its second smash season, this show has yet to screw up the mix.

    Melissa Maerz Entertainment Weekly
    October 13, 2015

Thankfully, this week's dinner scene brings back the old-school, hold-my-diamond-drop-earrings drama that Empire fans live for.

    Joshua Alston AV Club
    October 13, 2015

An unshakeable malaise is setting in just three episodes into season two. Everyone is trying to figure out if they still like the show without ever having fully untangled why they liked it to begin with.

    Syreeta McFadden Guardian
    October 13, 2015

The brothers Lyon are all trying to negotiate their relationship with Lucious; Cookie is trying to keep her startup label afloat; and can Hakeem's love interest survive the show's 60-minute lifespan?

    Robert Ham Paste Magazine
    October 08, 2015

The writers for the show relish as much as we do the idea of letting those two [Cookie and Anika] trade eights in the form of insults.
