RealRN AnonymousAnother fictional medical show trying to pass itself as accurate. What a load of BULLSHIT. I don't know if things are done differently in Canada when it comes to a nurse's scope of practice and unit structure, but from the first few seconds of episode 1, this show already has done everything WRONG. New nurse orientees are not dropped in the middle of a busy unit without a preceptor to make sure they don't screw something up. Nurses don't haphazardly float from one unit to another just because of one patient. Nurses don't do bedside OB ultrasounds; they look for a fetal heartbeat with an audio doppler (that's how far their scope of practice extends). If a patient is transferred to another unit, the receiving unit takes responsibility for that patient, regardless of whether they are appropriately staffed or not. The receiving unit has no right to require the transferring nurse to stay with the patient unless it has been agreed to by the sending charge nurse/sending unit manager. Paramedics don't hang around a hospital for that long. They re-stock and go back to base or their next assignment. ER nurses don't care for only 1 patient their entire shift; they usually care for 3-4 patients of varying acuity, sometimes more. There are no inpatient beds in an ER, only carts/gurnees for quick transportation and turnaround. If you see an inpatient bed in an ER, that patient has been staying in that ER for more than 24 hours, which is a problem on its own. I was hopeful that this would a show that could showcase nursing. It's just another cop-out drama looking for good ratings from people watching who don't know better and probably don't want to find out what really happens.2020-03-11 14:03 -

Critic Reviews of "Nurses - Season 1"
Wall Street JournalDecember 03, 2020Nurses deserve a show called "Nurses," especially right now. Whether they deserve this particular Nurses is another story.
Globe and MailJanuary 09, 2020Over all, Nurses is much less than the sum of its parts. And the parts all seem borrowed and hackneyed.
Stuff.co.nzApril 29, 2021Nurses' opening gambit is filled with such ethical and emotional dilemmas and, as a way to hook you into the series, it certainly packs a punch.
DeciderDecember 10, 2020Nurses is a Frankenstein monster's mess of piece-parts from other, better medical dramas.
Deadline Hollywood DailyDecember 07, 2020A few character traits aside, Nurses... has little distinctive about it except that it is network space-filler, it takes place in Toronto, and none of the patients are going to go bankrupt for the care they received.
