For King and Empire - Season 1, Episode 05: Masters of War: Canadians in the Last 100 Days - 1918
The victory over Russia in the East now allows the Germans to transfer thousands of troops to the Western Front. By the early summer of 1918, the Germans have made significant advances and are approaching victory. In advancing, the Germans have avoided the Canadian Corps, viewed as perhaps the deadliest force on the Front. The Canadian commander, Arthur Currie, moves his 100,000 troops in secrecy to Amiens, where the Allies will stage their counteroffensive. They secure major victories in battles on the 8th and 9th of August, going on for the next 10 days. The Germans retreat to the Hindenburg Line and prepare to hold their ground. At the town of Arras, the Canadians prepare for the last push eventually leading to their last great battle near Mons on November 10, 1918. The armistice took effect the next day.Actors: R.H.
