Dark Net - Season 1

Showtime is banking on the power of morbid curiosity to keep you watching, and you very well might. Though when you're done, you might need a Disney marathon to balance things out.

The content tends to be heavy on example and light on analysis and interpretation. The show could stand to slow down a bit on the way.

The subject matter is worthy of the docuseries treatment, but Dark Net is a shallow wade into the deep web.

In general, the program successfully walks a fine line between glorifying technology and treating it as a curiosity. No one knows where all this is headed, but Dark Net is at least peering into the possible futures with more sophistication than most.

Contemplation and condemnation, all wrapped up into one, with no easy answers at the end of it all, the fact that Dark Net never allows you to entirely pin down its perspective keeps the proceedings riveting.

While some of it is interesting in a circus-sideshow manner, it feels like a late arrival to the Catfish party.
