    Black Mirror - Season 4

Black Mirror is an anthology series that taps into our collective unease with the modern world, with each stand-alone episode a sharp, suspenseful tale exploring themes of contemporary techno-paranoia. Without questioning it, technology has transformed all aspects of our lives; in every home; on every desk; in every palm - a plasma screen; a monitor; a Smartphone -- a Black Mirror reflecting our 21st Century existence back at us. The series is created and written by Charlie Brooker, and executive produced by Brooker and Annabel Jones.

As a body of work it's more interesting than satisfying, although "USS Callister," the standout episode, is spectacular, while "Hang the DJ" has the kind of winning optimism that made Season 3's Emmy-winning "San Junipero" such a hit.

Each episode is a gem but -- since you asked -- my favorite is "USS Callister," which borders on genius.

Season four has only one real high, and it's somewhat telling that it's the episode that feels the least like a chapter of Black Mirror.

    The Australian

An astonishing, superlative piece of work in every respect.

    Daily Telegraph (UK)
    December 14, 2017

We could be looking at the best season of Black Mirror yet.

...another solid outing, and while nothing quite hits the giddy highs of last season...

    Refinery29
    December 29, 2017

"USS Callister" wraps a stunning premise around an equally stunning narrative - something not all Black Mirror episodes manage to achieve.

    Hindustan Times
    December 28, 2017

Episode idea: We display unity unlike the world has ever seen before and kidnap Charlie Brooker. We lock him up in an underground bunker, safe from Donald Trump and Twitter. His only purpose will be to write new episodes of Black Mirror until he dies.

    Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
    December 28, 2017

Mr. Brooker, whose background is in comedy writing, knows how to create realistic human interaction, and of course, human/tech interaction. The latter is what Black Mirror is all about: at its chilling best when the terrors run small, and deep.

    Vox
    December 26, 2017

Season four's most successful episodes work because they explore the ways in which technology can amplify, rather than change, our basic human impulses and instincts. It's within such stories that Black Mirror finds its strongest emotions.
