Raise Your Voice
TrailerRaise Your Voice is a coming-of-age story centered around small-town singer Terri, brokenhearted by the death of her brother in a car crash, who had secretly submitted her for a summer session at a performing arts academy in Los Angeles. Terri was devastated and she decides to quit music, but with a little encouragement and a sly plan from her family (except her father) she decides to go ahead to L.A. At the academy, she experiences a whole new way of life in the big city, far from the small town lifestyle she's used to.Actors: Hilary Duff, Oliver James, David Keith, Dana Davis, Johnny Lewis, Rita Wilson, Lauren C. Critic Reviews of "Raise Your Voice"
Ebert & RoeperOctober 11, 2004I like Hilary Duff, she's very charming, but she's stuck on this after school special level with these movies.
Washington PostOctober 08, 2004This is for Duff's already committed audiences, which presumably consist of the young, the innocent and the commercially acquisitive.
Village VoiceOctober 08, 2004All we can do is marvel at how the mighty -- Northern Exposure hottie John Corbett (as a weirdly flirty music teacher) and Risky Business babe Rebecca De Mornay (as Duff's frisky aunt) -- have fallen.
USA TodayOctober 08, 2004Even the kindest reaction to Raise My Voice is likely to be 'shut your face.'
Toronto StarOctober 08, 2004The music in Raise Your Voice ... manages to bring home what the uninspired script doesn't: Something in you dies if you don't express your musical talent.
Seattle TimesOctober 08, 2004A teen movie so inspirational and heartwarming that it comes with its very own lip gloss.
Common Sense MediaDecember 28, 2010Made for tween girls.
Cinema CrazedApril 29, 2009Vapid story, shallow concept, bad acting, unoriginal characters, and a climax so cheesy I had to shut it off to keep from kicking in the screen.
Christianity TodayNovember 02, 2006Duff carries off the lead role with confidence and grace, exuding a kind of fresh-faced naiveté not often found in other young female stars these days.
Reel Times: Reflections on CinemaApril 14, 2005Duff's sunny disposition makes her a likable movie presence, but I've yet to see anything from her...beyond a 'let's put on a show' high school drama club enthusiasm.
Slant MagazineFebruary 12, 200510 Reasons Why You Should (Or Shouldn't) See Raise Your Voice...
Movie EyeOctober 30, 2004In watching the anemically manipulative Raise Your Voice, one wouldn't mind calling for a touch of well-needed laryngitis.
