Cheerfully derivative yet doggedly entertaining, "Number 37" benefits from Dumisa's slick execution and impressive acting by her small cast.

Deeply emotive performances by Ally and Rockman plus a strong turn by Sandi Schultz as the dead cop's partner, further elevate this tough, vivid film.

Far more substantial than a run-of-the-mill Hitchcock homage, "Number 37" is richly satisfying on its own terms as a singularly crafty and strikingly well-crafted thriller that signals the arrival of a promising filmmaking talent.

This is derivative if well-executed product, except when it comes to the relationship at the film's center.
