Carnage Park

A climax so dark you'll need braille subtitles to get through it.

Equally inspired by Quentin Tarantino, the Coen brothers and the seediest of '70s drive-in exploitation, "Carnage Park" is a frequently repellent film that's nonetheless cleverly constructed.

Even at just 80 minutes, the story is stretched too thin.

"Carnage Park" is an extremely empty experience.

Mickey Keating takes the adage "less is more" to heart in his "Carnage Park," and it pays off pretty well.

Visually, it's well done, as is Gino Ostinelli's score (as opposed to the pop soundtrack, which can feel derivative). And Keating keeps the story tight, giving the audience enough twists and turns to keep the ride fun.

This is a breakneck thrill ride through American horror's greatest hits.

"Carnage Park" is a solid, unsparing thriller, but its potential for greatness slips just out of grasp during its climactic stretch.

Mickey Keating has chomped down on a big slab of 1970s grindhouse meat and spat out Carnage Park, a grizzled B-movie crime-gone-awry blue plate special.

The film covers The Texas Chainsaw Massacre by way of Rob Zombie, Quentin Tarantino, and Ti West.

Keating's work continues to improve, with Carnage Park suggesting that he's more than ready to tackle bigger and lengthier shoots - if he chooses.

With a sense of swagger and an unflinching pace, Carnage Park is truly a cinematic triumph from top to bottom.
