Stevie Nicks was born in Phoenix, Arizona. From an early age, she showed a love and aptitude for music, singing country and western duets with her grandfather when she was 4 years old. After moving to San Francisco, she began songwriting and performing at Menlo-Atherton High School, where she met her future long-time companion, Lindsey Buckingham. After smaller projects failed, she and Lindsey signed with Polydor Records, and produced their collaboration, "Buckingham-Nicks". The album flopped, and the two (who were now lovers) were dropped from the label, but not before attracting the attention of Mick Fleetwood, who invited them to join Fleetwood Mac. Two years later, in 1975, Fleetwood Mac's self-titled album topped the charts, headlined by Stevie's "Rhiannon". Success for the band, and for Stevie, was immediate. The legendary "Rumours" album followed in 1977, at the same time Stevie's relationship with Lindsey came to an end. Stevie's solo career began in 1981 and met with instant success. The stress of maintaining a solo career and remaining with Fleetwood Mac became too much for her, and she became addicted to cocaine, and then to prescription medication. After undergoing treatment for her addictions, Stevie vowed she would never perform publicly again, but was lured out of retirement for Fleetwood Mac's 1997 reunion and continues to perform, write and record. I wouldn't like to be in movies. Movie people are strange. They live a different life than musicians do. And I really think they're much wilder than we are. One time, four movie guys walked up to me at a party after a show. I was looking good. And they took me apart with their eyes. The hair on my arms stood up. Show less «

As a member of Fleetwood Mac, for two weeks I was still working at the restaurant because I'd given them notice. I didn't just want to walk in there and say, "I'm going to be a famous rock star so I quit and I never liked your food anyway.". Show less «

The whole hugeness of it all had really hit everybody very hard. And the biggest thing is Chris and I got a lot of attention because we were the girls, and they didn't like that. They didn't like it then; they don't like it now. Show less «

[on why Christine McVie would never return to Fleetwood Mac] She went to England and she has never been back since 1998... as much as we would all like to think that she'll just change her mind one day, I don't think it'll happen. We love her, so we had to let her go. Show less «

[on Christine McVie] We all did everything we could do to try and talk her out of quitting. But you look in someone's eyes and you can tell they're finished. As Taylor Swift would say: "We are never ever getting back together ever!". That's what Chris was saying. But I'd beg, borrow and scrape together $5 million and give it to her in cash if she would come back. That's how much I miss her. Show less «
