After playing an extra in the movie Hair (1979) as a Central Park hippie, her first paid acting job on stage was with legendary mythologist Joseph Campbell and his dancer/choreographer wife, Jean Erdman. After years of repertory theatre in New York City with such companies as The Public Theatre, CSC and Soho Rep, Mary Eileen moved to Los Angeles where she worked in film publicity at The Walt Disney Studios while keeping her feet on the boards.
