Marilyn Camacho

Marilyn Camacho is a Puerto Rican actress, born and raised on the south side of Chicago, Illinois. The middle child among three brothers and four sisters, her parents Jose and Amelida Camacho, both descended from Yauco and Ponce, Puerto Rico before settling in Chicago. Marilyn attended Marie Curie Performing Arts High School, where she got her start acting in school plays and singing in the school and gospel choirs. After graduating, she received intense theater training studying acting and directing for two years at the now defunct, Barat College of DePaul in Lake Forest, Illinois before she left and went back to the city to then study film at Columbia College. When she could no longer afford the tuition, she left and founded UrbanTheater Company Chicago (UTC) and served as it's Artistic and Co-Artistic Director for over four years. Marilyn has dedicated over ten years to working in the theater industry in Chicago, producing, performing, and directing with her company and other notable theatre institutions such as The Goodman, Steppenwolf, Victory Gardens, Congo Square, Teatro Luna and 16th Street. For the past seven years, her company's home base is at the Batey Urbano in the predominantly Puerto Rican neighborhood, Humboldt Park (Paseo Boricua) on Chicago's north side where she still remains an ensemble member.After Marilyn moved to Los Angeles, she quickly started working in film and television. Aside from acting, Marilyn is also a writer who believes in creating more diversity and roles for women in film. She has written and produced her own web-series which is being packaged alongside her TV pilot - an original women-driven drama television series, to be pitched to networks later this year.
