Born in Colorado, Wingate was raised in Massachusetts. At the age of 15, he stepped on a stage for the first time and knew he was home. Wingate worked steadily in local and regional theater productions and starred in Bay State (1991), the longest-running college soap opera, before relocating to Los Angeles.In a few short years, Wingate has steadily earned a notable resume, including memorable guest-starring roles on primetime series including, the Peabody Award-winning FX series Justified (2010), ABC's Castle (2009), CBS' CSI: NY (2004), and Showtime's Dexter (2006).Wingate's impressive recurring role as Carter, an inmate who sexually assaults a fellow prisoner (played by Chad Duell) on ABC's General Hospital (1963), garnered him a 2011 Soap Opera Spirit Award nomination. The groundbreaking storyline marked the first time daytime television had ever addressed the taboo issue of male survivors of sexual violence.On the big screen, Wingate has appeared opposite Paul Bettany in Scott Stewart's Priest (2011).
