Gérard Sire is mainly known in France as a radio host and story teller. After working at Europe 1, he spent the last decade of his life working at France Inter (then the number one radio in France), where he became the most popular radio host of the seventies. In addition to commenting the latest news in the morning (7h-9h) he hosted a program in the afternoon where he would tell at least one short story. Some of his short stories have been published after his death.Gérard Sire also wrote the scenarios of the movies by Jean Yanne, including the movie "Tout le monde il est beau, tout le monde il est gentil", a satire about a radio station chasing success by all means, a movie so popular at the time that the title became a common expression in French (meaning everybody's beautiful and nice... but in a very ironic sense!). He also wrote many TV series.Sire appeared in a few movies, playing small characters for fun, especially in Jean Yanne's and Claude Lelouch's movies (his two best friends). The background radio voice all along Lelouch's movie "Un homme et une femme" (Palme d'Or in Cannes, 1964) is his, and amusingly, his first son plays the part of Jean-Louis Trintignant's son Antoine.A heavy smoker, he died of cancer on the 22nd of November 1977, leaving three sons, and a wife (now deceased).
