Using his birth name as his stage name, Donnell E. Smith was born and raised in Baltimore, MD, to LaVerne Williams and John E. Smith. Growing up, he always had a creative energy that preceded him, from Visual to Performing Artistry. Though acting didn't take precedence until his early adulthood, his love of movies and the idea of performing to make people laugh and sing-along, helped him prepare for that journey. In elementary school, he played the Volin and Viola, while in middle and high schools, he studied Mass Communications and Visual Arts. Acting came along, not long after leaving college studies of Mechanical Engineering to pursue music in Atlanta, GA. It was then and there, that he began to fully realize the full extent of his imagination and creativity. [On getting robbed for the first time, four months after moving to NYC] Man, improv saved my life that night. I didn't know what they were carrying or why they decided not to cover their faces, but I know I didn't want to look at them. I worked up enough anger to sell this elaborate story just so they wouldn't take my metro pass. They could've had anything but that. The crazy this is that they ended up giving everything back to me and actually apologizing for "robbing another struggling brotha," hahaha. Show less «
