5 Seconds Of Summer (also known as 5SOS) is an Australian band consisting of members Luke Robert Hemmings (born 1996), Michael Gordon Clifford (born 1995), Ashton Fletcher Irwin (born 1994) and Calum Thomas Hood (born 1996). They were first formed in Sydney during 2011 and began posting Youtube videos. Luke on vocals and guitar, Calum on vocals and bass guitar, and Michael on vocals and guitar. In December 2011, Ashton joined the band on vocals and drums. During 2012 they released an EP called 'Unplugged' which reached number 3 on the iTunes chart in Australia and in the top 20 in New Zealand and Sweden. Their international fanbase continued to grow when One Direction's Louis Tomlinson tweeted a link to their song 'Gotta Get Out'. When 5SOS released their first single 'Out Of My Limit' in November 2012, One Direction's Niall Horan tweeted the link to the video clip. On 14 February 2013, it was announced that 5 Seconds of Summer would support One Direction on their worldwide Take Me Home Tour. Whilst on a break from the Take Me Home Tour, 5 Seconds of Summer returned home to Australia where they played a National headlining tour, with all dates selling out within minutes. It was around this time when the band began to gain popularity and become more well-known. On 21 November 2013, the band announced that they had signed to Capitol Records. On 5 February 2014, 5 Seconds of Summer listed their debut single 'She Looks So Perfect' for pre-order on the iTunes Store which was released in late March. On 5 March 2014, it was announced that 5 Seconds of Summer will once again join One Direction on the road, supporting them on their 2014 Where We Are Tour in the US, Canada, UK and Europe. On 9 April 2014, the 'She Looks So Perfect EP' debuted at number 2 on the Billboard 200. In June 2014, their first album called '5 Seconds Of Summer' was released. Show less «

[Talking about their fans]: Ashton: Fans sometimes even get our lyrics tattooed on their bodies. If we've written a lyric powerful enough that someone would get it tattooed, that is huge. Luke: I love it when a fan just comes up to us and tell us they are having the best time of their life. Ashton: I see fans tell us they've been kicked out of their house. Calum: They say, "your music has really helped me through a tough situation." That really hits home for me. Ashton: I want to make music to help people. It's important to listen to fans. Michael: I think about the crowd and if they are having fun. I want to make sure everything is having a good time. Luke: I like big signs and funny signs. Or I see fans holding signs with Christmas lights wrapped around them. That definitely gets our attention! Ashton: We really enjoy surprising fans! We held a secret gig that was Mexican themed. When fans arrived, there were taco trucks and a Mariachi band that played our songs. Show less «

He probably comes up and cuddles me three times a day. Michael: I used to think Calum was the best hugger, but recently Luke has been giving out really great cuddles. Ashton: Michael's definitely a good cuddler. I feel like he's got it jam-packed. He knows what he's doing, he's a cuddly guy. Luke: Calum's definitely the best cuddler. He's really squishy. [Asked about there biggest dating disaster]: Calum: I went on a date with a girl once, but halfway through, I realized I didn't really like her. We just didn't gel. It was awkward, but I got through it. I didn't leave halfway; I couldn't do that to her! Luke: I went on a date once where we went for sushi and I spilled soy sauce all over my plate and a little bit on her. I'm very clumsy when I'm nervous. I need a girl who can understand that. Ashton: I've tried to do the whole "cool" thing on a date, but it didn't go so well. I'm a little sarcastic at times and sometimes that might come across as rude. My lesson learnt is try not to make as many jokes, because it goes downhill. Michael: I bought flowers for a girl who I didn't know had a boyfriend. It was very awkward. She accepted them and thought they were really sweet. She was like, "thanks, they're nice." I was like, "Nice? That's all I get?" And she was like, "Yeah, I have a boyfriend." Then it made sense. I think I've learned my lesson- always check if she's got a boyfriend. Show less «

I think character is important in a girl. Michael: Funny, weird, and caring! I don't know if I've met my dream girl yet. Maybe I have on the street and didn't know it. Calum: Quirky, funny, and slightly weird. We're weird guys, so it needs to be balanced out. I'm yet to meet my dream girl. Show less «
