Memory Hole - Season 1

The show is aided greatly by the talents of host Will Arnett, whose snarky delivery is ideal when diving into the strange clips and odd trends explored in each episode.

Host Will Arnett makes fun of cheesy '80s pop culture ephemera. That's it, that's the show, and it's great.

Will Arnett walks us through clips of pop-culture disasters from decades past, like Canada's horrifying SkyDome opening celebration in 1989 and the movie Gymkata, and, if you haven't guessed already, this is definitely my favorite show on Quibi.

Unfortunately, the show's excavation of "the most cringeworthy events in pop culture" doesn't dig very deep, and Arnett's lame-duck one-liners are delivered with minimal gusto.

They're not all winners, but I can't shortchange a quibi that has the smarts to devote a few minutes to 1985's action masterpiece Gymkata. Having Patton Oswalt deliver the pitch seals the deal.

That sounds niche as hell, and it is - but it's also pretty amusing, and, like 90% of Quibi's content, completely disposable.

While it can be amusing to watch some of these embarrassing moments in Canada's history, it feels like Arnett's talents are wasted here.

Retro pop culture-based clip show is nothing new.

It's laugh out loud funny with just a pinch of anti-nostalgia. Maybe now is...better?

Unfortunately, Memory Hole creates the same surreal effect as late-night hosts doing their shows from home during the COVID-19 pandemic. Before its next batch of Quick Bites, this hole could use a thorough cleaning.

A Quibi-approved length of 10 minutes (or less) is actually the perfect length to go back in time and recall strange phenomena from the '80s and '90s that don't deserve to be remembered.
