While [It] clears up the timeline and circumstances of the health crisis, it is a story of trauma told in isolation from deeply examining the larger business and societal pressures that continue to impact Lovato's treatment of her disease.

The trauma of these two incidents is rightfully given plenty of time to be absorbed in the documentary.

Lovato deserves plenty of kudos... but this "setting the record straight" feels a little too controlled to truly be engaging and emotionally immersive.

Lovato's audacity for telling a messy story and owning her choices and self-centeredness is practically unsurpassed.

The furthest thing possible from a reputation-branding documentary for a star, Lovato's film is full of shocking revelations- and it's hard not to have sympathy.

The four-part docuseries offers a raw and candid account of Demi's painful battle with drug abuse, sexual abuse, eating disorders, body dysmorphia, self-harm and alcohol addiction.

It takes a lot of courage for Lovato to lay her struggles bear in a documentary such as this. While the later half feels closer to promotion, there's enough candid and honest revelations to stand out.

A bold and sometimes bleak documentary, which lays the briars of fame bare. It's a troubling watch, but the courage to stand this starkly in the spotlight is to be commended.

Although some might question Lovato's need to reveal this to the public, she goes about it with a bracing sense of honesty about her situation...and even a certain sense of humor at times.

Demi Lovato: Dancing With the Devil can be a triggering experience, but it's her truth, her life, and her soul laid bare for all to see. Only now, she's revealing it all, not a tabloid.

...the film comes off as more of a PR move than any deep dive into addressing her inner demons.

Lovato's candidness is something to be applauded and feared in equal measure
