The Last Survivors
TrailerKendal, a teenage girl, fights to protect the last working well in a drought-stricken valley from a greedy water baron. At the edge of an expansive barren valley, all that remains of The Wallace Farm for Wayward Youth is a few hollowed-out husks of buildings. It';s been a decade since the last rainfall, and society at large has dried up and blown away. When a greedy water baron lays claim to what little of the precious resource remains underground, Kendal must decide whether to run and hide or bravely fight for the few cherished people and things she has left.Actors: Haley Lu Richardson, Booboo Stewart, Max Charles, Nicole Arianna Fox, Michael Welch, Jon Gries, Michael Massee, Rena Owen, Leo Lee, Barbara Crampton, Michael McCartney, ...»Director: Thomas S. Critic Reviews of "The Last Survivors"
James Rocchi indieWireFebruary 12, 2016Hammock may have begun his career making worlds for other directors, but given a chance to create his own here, he not only succeeds but excels.
Justin Lowe Hollywood ReporterFebruary 12, 2016Hammock's carefully composed widescreen shots of the parched landscape contribute to crafting the film's stripped-down, distinctly menacing visual aesthetic and emphasize the isolation of the inhabitants, forced to compete for water and survival.
John Noonan FILMINK (Australia)February 29, 2016At times, like its cast of characters, The Last Survivors looks a little rough around the edges, but it certainly achieves more than its glossy compatriots.
Bob Strauss Los Angeles Daily NewsFebruary 12, 2016There's nothing really new on the thematic front here, but production designer-turned-director Tom Hammock does wonders with desert vistas and, along with Richardson, has created a sci-fi heroine as real as the girl next door.
Jennie Kermode Eye for FilmFebruary 12, 2016It's a film that depends heavily on its central performance. Richardson shines in what was her first major film role, giving Kendal a roundedness rarely seen in either genre.
Adrian Mack Georgia StraightFebruary 12, 2016An attenuated plot (and some very questionable logic) leaves us with a long and wearying Road populated by people with luxurious hair and far-too-neatly-trimmed beards.
Rob Hunter Film School RejectsFebruary 12, 2016A smartly-crafted, lo-fi apocalypse that packs in substantial substance and care for its budget.
J.R. Southall StarburstFebruary 12, 2016This is ultimately an interesting and pretty but rather vacuous failure.
Scott Weinberg TheHorrorShowAugust 23, 2015A refreshingly novel take on a rather oft-told apocalypse tale.
Christopher Runyon Movie MezzanineJune 20, 2014The kind of serviceable yet lovingly crafted indie genre picture you wish was made more often.
