  • Critic Reviews of "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society"

    Variety
    April 18, 2018

They've disentangled the novel's dramatic and romantic complications to a fault; if it's possible to merely amble in place, that's what the storytelling in "Guernsey" does for protracted stretches of screen time.

    Hollywood Reporter
    April 13, 2018

Buoyed by a reliably appealing star turn from James, this handsome tearjerker mostly sidesteps the tweeness of its title to become, somehow, both an old-fashioned romance and a detective story trumpeting gender equality.

    The Straits Times (Singapore)
    May 08, 2018

This film adaptation of a popular novel begins as a feather-light piece of escapism, but gains unexpected pathos mid-way.

    Matt's Movie Reviews
    May 05, 2018

The Guernsey Literary Pie and Potato Pie Society may be a mouthful of a title, yet the film is nourishment for the heart and soul.

    ArtsHub
    May 03, 2018

As a title, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society might be a mouthful, but it couldn't suit this warm, nostalgic post-war drama better.

    April 26, 2018

Yes, some of the narrative twists are a bit creak... but there's enough drama and feel-good factor to leave you feeling, unlike sampling the potentially unctuous pastry of the title, more than satisfied.

    Shadows on the Wall
    April 25, 2018

    Winningly warm and smiley.

    London Evening Standard
    April 25, 2018

This handsomely shot, elegant and engaging film by and large avoids the cloying winsomeness of its title to paint a vivid portrait of an era...

    Trespass
    April 24, 2018

This is a sweet, well-shot and well-acted piece drawn from a thoughtful script.

    Sunday Times (UK)
    April 23, 2018

It could surely have told a better-focused story.

    Daily Mirror (UK)
    April 23, 2018

The result is a rewarding and entertaining slice of British fare you can really get your teeth into.

    The Arts Desk
    April 23, 2018

This is destined to fill a rainy afternoon between Christmas and New Year.
