Resistance (2011)

The pace is so pedestrian it's a wonder the entire cast aren't on Zimmer frames.

There have been several 'what if' movies about what Britain might have been like had the Nazis occupied us. This is one of the worst.

Gupta, working from novelist Owen Sheer's screenplay, isn't tempted by big bangs and action setpieces, preferring to keep the narrative subtly human scale.

A beautiful, elliptical war film with the haunting qualities of a ghost story. Riseborough is terrific and Gupta proves that he's a talent to watch.
