Perfume: The Story Of A Murderer
Trailer'Perfume' is a terrifying story of murder and obsession set in 18th-century France. Jean-Baptiste Grenouille came into the world unwanted, expected to die, yet born with an unnerving sense of smell that created alienation as well as talent. Strangely lacking any scent of his own, he becomes obsessed with capturing the irresistible but elusive aroma of young womanhood. As Grenouille';s obsession turns deadly, 12 young girls are found murdered. Panic breaks out as people rush to protect their daughters, while an unrepentant and unrelenting Grenouille still lacks the final ingredient to complete his quest.Actors: Ben Whishaw, Francesc Albiol, Gonzalo Cunill, Roger Salvany, Andrés Herrera, Simon Chandler, David Calder, Richard Felix, Birgit Minichmayr, Reg Wilson, Catherine Boisgontier, ...»Director: Tom TykwerCountry: Germany, France, Spain, United States, BelgiumDuration: 147 minQuality: HDRelease: 2006IMDb: 7.50 CommentsSort By- Newest

Critic Reviews of "Perfume: The Story Of A Murderer"
Philadelphia InquirerJanuary 11, 2007Tykwer loses his cinematic grip when he tries to blend murder and piety. In his hands, the two don't emulsify.
New York ObserverJanuary 10, 2007Perfume: The Story of a Murderer is another nauseous example of style over content: a toxic tale of serial homicide set in 18th-century France that creeps you out faster than it makes you think.
Ebert & RoeperJanuary 08, 2007Hated this movie. Hated it.
Miami HeraldJanuary 05, 2007Perfume: The Story of a Murderer never tries to make Jean-Baptiste sympathetic but he's not rendered monstrous, either: He just is a victim of a passion larger and more powerful than any one man can handle.
Toronto StarJanuary 05, 2007[The filmmakers] render a portrait of Paris that both delights and overwhelms the senses. This is a movie where eyes turn into noses, which may run at the many ghastly sights presented.
Seattle TimesJanuary 05, 2007Tykwer, best known for the ultramodern chase movie Run Lola Run, would seem an unusual choice for a period film, but he infuses the sometimes stately story with vigor; though well past two and a half hours, it never feels long.
Mountain Xpress (Asheville, NC)March 25, 2009It's a hard film to like, but it's even harder to dismiss, simply because it's never less than absolutely fascinating.
Lessons of DarknessNovember 21, 2007[Its] off-the-charts screwiness obscures virtually all shortcomings.
Apollo GuideJuly 20, 2007While you might not come away from a viewing feeling entirely satisfied, you will almost certainly have lots to talk about.
Kalamazoo GazetteJune 15, 2007Tykwer squeezes every possible drop of melodramatic beauty out of this material. ...But the gorgeous visuals aren't enough to keep the drama from occasionally degenerating into beautifully produced hokum.
Uruguay TotalApril 06, 2007Una estupenda reconstrucción histórica y un atractivo tratamiento visual son los principales valores de esta interesante aunque irregular adaptación.
The Coast (Halifax, Nova Scotia)March 15, 2007Plenty of high profile movies are about the tormented lives of artists. Perfume: The Story of a Murderer takes it up a notch: It's a legitimate artwork.
