Critic Reviews of "Kin (2018)"
Tribune News ServiceAugust 31, 2018Kin proves to not be one thing or the other, defying any clear genre or demographic boundaries. It's not a blockbuster or a heroic young adult tale, just a devastatingly sad and terrible story...
Associated PressAugust 30, 2018Given the film's title, and that the filmmakers are themselves twins, you would expect the brother relationship at the heart of the movie to be something more than it is.
ReelViewsAugust 30, 2018At times dull and plodding and at other times cartoonishly silly, Kin rarely works and, when it does, it's often for the wrong reasons.
Washington PostAugust 30, 2018Although "Kin" doesn't cut it, some of its ideas are worthy of further development.
RogerEbert.comAugust 30, 2018A disjointed and at times off-putting mess that veers wildly and unconvincingly between a road movie, a family drama, a violent crime film and an offbeat sci-fi thriller.
New York TimesAugust 30, 2018In the hands of more playful creators, this adolescent fantasy could have been fun.
io9.comSeptember 04, 2018In trying to be so much more than what Bag Man was, Kin feels strained past its limits and when you try to appreciate the film for what it is and what it's trying to do, you can't help but notice its weaknesses.
South China Morning PostSeptember 03, 2018The different styles sit uneasily together, and coherence isn't helped by a script that slows the pacing right down by putting long talky scenes where the action should be.
Ex-Press.comSeptember 01, 2018The idea of superior firepower and how it changes one's place in the world is what this movie seems to be about, yet it never actually addresses it... It's as if we're just supposed to think the ray-gun is cool, and wait for Eli to use it.
Columbus UndergroundSeptember 01, 2018Advertised as an adolescent SciFi adventure where a 'tween finds an intergalactic gun and all his problems are solved, the film is much more than that. And also much less.
Screen It!September 01, 2018Enough parts of it worked just okay enough that I sort of dug what transpired, at least in the various individual moments. (Full Content Review for Parents - Violence, Profanity, etc. - also Available)
MovieCrypt.comAugust 31, 2018...a fun little modernized throwback that appreciates sci-fi action flicks the way "Stranger Things" idolizes 1980s horrors films.
