Brotherhood of the Wolf
TrailerIn 1765 something was stalking the mountains of central France. A 'beast' that pounced on humans and animals with terrible ferocity. By the end, the Beast of Gevaudan had killed over 100 people, to this day, no one is entirely sure what it was, wolf? hyena? or something supernatural? Whatever it was, shepherds had the same life-expectancy as the red-suited guys in 'Star Trek'. The Beast is a popular myth in France, albeit one rooted firmly in reality; somewhat surprisingly it is little known to the outside world, and perhaps incredibly it has never been made into a movie. Until now... Based on the true story of the Beast of the Gevaudan that terrorized France in the mid-XVIIIth century, the movie aims to tell first and explain afterwards. In the first part, a special envoy of the King of France, altogether biologist, explorer and philosopher, arrives...Actors: Samuel Le Bihan, Mark Dacascos, Jérémie Renier, Vincent Cassel, Émilie Dequenne, Jacques Perrin, Christian Marc, Karin Kriström, Philippe Nahon, Virginie Darmon, Vincent Cespedes, ...»Director: Christophe GansCountry: Euro, FranceDuration: 142 minQuality: HDRelease: 2001IMDb: 7.00 CommentsSort By- Newest

Critic Reviews of "Brotherhood of the Wolf"
L.A. WeeklySeptember 30, 2002A wonder of magpie postmodernism, a samurai adventure with Hong Kong action and a wry touch of American Western, all sewn into a free interpretation of Gallic history that also has its finger on the pulse of current social trends.
SlateMarch 22, 2002Instead of fluid acrobatics, we get hyperbolic montages of kicking feet, somersaulting torsos, and fists connecting with faces.
Toronto StarFebruary 08, 2002Exhilirating viewing, at least while the feet are flying and the fangs are baring.
Globe and MailFebruary 08, 2002Utterly preposterous but so full of enthusiasm and flashy style that it's entertaining anyway.
Creative LoafingOctober 02, 2012This delirious experience covers most bases and makes at least a cursory stab at the few it misses.
Common Sense MediaDecember 22, 2010Werewolf thriller set during French revolution.
Film ScoutsJune 21, 2007A period French martial-arts movie that puts the "where?" in wolf films.
MovieFreak.comDecember 09, 2005Leave it to the French to find a place for kung fu in an 18th century corsets and werewolves epic. And, give them credit for including a generous helping of sex, bawdiness and a dash of Native American mysticism, too, just to make things interesting.
Looking CloserJanuary 15, 2005The hero feels free to sleep with any prostitute, even as he's wooing the one he calls his 'true love.' Isn't there a conflict of interest there?
eFilmCritic.comMarch 18, 2003A 17th century French costume drama where everybody is Kung-fu fighting - with some highly watchable results!
