Another Mother's Son
TrailerBased on the true story of Louisa Gould, the drama is set during World War II on the Nazi-occupied island of Jersey. Lou took in an escaped Russian POW and hid him over the war's course. The tension mounts as it becomes clear that Churchill will not risk an assault to recapture the British soil, and the island-community spirit begins to fray under pressures of hunger, occupation and divided loyalty. Against this backdrop, Lou fights to preserve her family's sense of humanity and to protect the Russian boy as if he was her own.Genre: DramaActors: Jenny Seagrove, John Hannah, Julian Kostov, Amanda Abbington, Ronan Keating, Félicité Du Jeu, Susan Hampshire, Brenock OConnor, Peter Wight, Gwen Taylor, Joanna David, ...»Director: Christopher MenaulCountry: United KingdomDuration: 103 minQuality: HDRelease: 2017IMDb: 6.80 CommentsSort By- Newest

Critic Reviews of "Another Mother's Son"
Stuff.co.nzOctober 11, 2017... a modest, timely and mostly admirable film that tells an astonishing story of heroism, as though that heroism was nothing special.
Flicks.co.nzOctober 05, 2017The sets and costuming are era-appropriate, but director Christopher Menaul's no-frills approach usually boils down to 'point cameras at actors'.
Sunday Times (UK)June 12, 2017The little-known true story of Louisa Gould, a widow who sheltered a Russian POW in Nazi-occupied Jersey, has all the ingredients for a poignant and uplifting film, yet it's a lacklustre piece that would have been better as a TV drama.
Radio TimesMarch 24, 2017This is a story absolutely worth telling, the closing captions leaving us in no doubt about the heroism of average Channel Islanders during those darkest of hours.
GuardianMarch 24, 2017At first, there is a bit of a familiar taste to this true-life wartime tale. But it becomes something tougher.
Times (UK)March 23, 2017Although the script tackles the dilemmas of resistance and collaboration, it never rises above the level of a television movie.
Daily Telegraph (UK)March 23, 2017Beyond a presiding innocuousness, detecting active virtues in Christopher Menaul's film takes some digging.
The SpectatorMarch 23, 2017It's the kind of story that has been told countless times, and here it's told in such a perfunctory, plodding way that it brings nothing new to the party.
Flick FilosopherMarch 23, 2017Not alt-history but a true story from a Nazi-occupied English-speaking place, a hugely relevant reminder that resistance to injustice is an absolute imperative.
Independent (UK)March 22, 2017[Another Mother's Son] feels more like a TV movie than anything cinematic.
Total FilmMarch 20, 2017The solemn score, plucky Brits and nasty Nazis are all familiar, but there's a lived-in feel that transcends cliché.
