Yichun Chen was born in Luoyang, Henan Provence, China, one of the cradles of Chinese civilization, and one of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China. She is the only child of Shufeng Chen and Liping Cao. She was raised in the neighborhood units of AVIC Optronics (where both her parents work) . Yichun is of Chinese, Korean and Mongolian descent. Her grandfather, Shiyao Chen, is a former minister of organization at Henan Provence. Her auntie, Shumin Chen, is the only artist to have won the prestigious Plum Blossom Prize both in Opera and Drama. The Plum Blossom Prize is the highest theatrical award in China.Yichun Chen received an education from her mother as a pianist and has won the first prize of piano competition of children & teen group in the Henan province at age 9-12, China. At age 13 she decided to pursue her true dream to become an actress. She moved out from her parents' and hometown at the time, and went studying performance at the Henan Institute of Art, Xi'an Film Academy. After obtaining a Bachelor of Arts at the Art College of Henan University, she went on to pursue her artistic career in Beijing, where she worked as a performer in Chinese Opera at the General Political Department of Opera. She worked alongside famous singer Peng Liyuan. At the age of 20, she got to sing in front of Jintao Hu, then President of China. After a nationwide audition, Yichun got her first leading role in the very first original comedy musical of China: Bai Ri Meng, in which she played Bai Yang. In 2010, she went with the show on a 6-month tour.Yichun came to act on the big screen after volunteering to help the victims of the Yushu earthquake. She was teaching children, when she was cast as supporting actress in a dramatized version of the events. This was a turning point in Yichun's life, who began seriously considering acting as a career. She auditioned for a role in Stephen Chow's movie Journey to the West. She got the role of the inn manager who opposes Shu Qi.Yichun learned to speak English in Australia at 2012. The following year, she went to France to learn French and obtained a master's degree of Fashion Branding in French Kedge Business School, in Marseille, South France. While having lunch in a small Chinese restaurant in Paris, she was spotted by a casting director, and got cast as a flight attendant in Luc Besson's Lucy. She worked with Scarlett Johansson on set.In 2017, Yichun bought herself a one-way ticket to Los Angeles. Since then, she has been study with Ivana Chubbuck Studio, Beverly Hills Playhouse. She went to auditions for Mulan in Disney's Live Action Film Mulan, for Kitty Pong in Warner Brother's Crazy Rich Asians, and for Luna in Warner Brother's short film Luna. Show less «
