Swedish champion pistol shooter Torsten Elis Ullman was born on July 27, 1908 in Stockholm, Sweden. Torsten attended the Sherbonne School in Dorset, England from 1925 to 1927. After leaving Sherbonne School Ullman went on to attend Clare College, Cambridge University, and Uppsala University in Uppsala, Sweden. Torsten won a gold medal in the men's free pistol, 50-meters as well as bronze medals in both the men's rapid-fire pistol, 25-meters and the men's free pistol, 50-meters at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, Germany. Moreover, Ullman won the world championships in free pistol in 1933, 1935, 1937, 1947, and 1952. In addition, Torsten has the distinction of being the only pistol shooter to ever win the prestigious Svenska Dagbladet gold model for the greatest Swedish sports achievement of the year for 1937. Outside of his shooting career, Ullman also worked in pistol development, co-wrote a widely released book on shooting with fellow Swedish champion shooter Lev Weinstein, and started a mechanical industry on Helgo outside Vaxjo, Smaland. Torsten was married twice and was the father of several children who were also champion shooters (his youngest daughter Marie-Louise Ullman won the European Junior Championships in the 10 meter air pistol in 1992).
