Theora Balsam was born in New York, NY, USA. She is an actress, dancer, singer, and writer known for Marriage Story (2019), Tracing Steps (2019), The Moons of Koda (2018), Ou-R Howse (2018), and Halo (2015). She loves to sing and can belt out a tune with the sweetness of a honeycomb. When her son was an infant she would strum a guitar to get him to nap. She was born to perform, into a family of the theater. Theora's parents met in New York City as young actors and writers. Her father Warren Balsam, was a writer for the New York Times, then later a school teacher. Her mother, Cleone Balsam started out as a model and actress then later became a director, writer and set designer known for TV's, The Waltons, Fish and films such as, 8 Heads in a Duffel Bag. Theora is also the niece of Martin Balsam, Joyce Van Patten and cousins, Talia Balsam, Adam Balsam and Iris Smyles. Theora spent her early years studying in New York City appearing in community theater. Initially, she had aspirations of becoming a professional dancer. As a youngster she traveled in and around New York City every day to study ballet, jazz, and modern dance and won a scholarship at the famed New Dance Group Studio in the Broadway area, and soon began obtaining acting roles as well. She maintains her New York City roots and continues to pursue the entertainment industry in Hollywood. Theora is a volunteer for animal rescue, BookPALS sponsored by the SAG Foundation-performing artists for literacy in schools, and the Art of Elysium enriching the lives of young artists. Show less «
