Sebastian Hofmann is an emerging Mexican filmmaker whose films have been presented at the Rotterdam Tiger Awards, Locarno, and Sundance, among other prestigious festivals. Named by Hollywood Reporter 'Talent to watch'. His latest feature film 'Tiempo Compartido' awarded him the jury prize for best screenwriting at the Sundance World Dramatic competition and is now touring the festival circuit. Halley, his first feature film, has been selected to over 60 festivals and has won 15 international awards, including the Cinevision Award (Munich Film Festival), Noves Visions Award (Sitges Fantastic Film Festival), and Best Film at the London East End Film Festival. In 2013 Halley had a successful cinema run in Mexico and was sold to over 60 countries via the AMC/Sundance channel. Halley was co- produced by the well-established production company Mantarraya, responsible for the films of Carlos Reygadas and Amat Escalante. Sebastian has received twice the Hubert Bals Fund and once the Netherlands Film Fund.In 2011 he established Piano with producer Julio Chavezmontes as a platform for cutting edge work across artistic disciplines.He started his career as a visual artist and film editor. His video work has been shown in galleries and museums worldwide. He has directed several promo videos for the Mexican underground music scene.Canícula (2011), a documentary film photographed, edited and co-written by Sebastian was awarded The FIPRESCI Award for best film at the Thessaloniki International Film Festival. Canícula went on to win several honors and was later bought by Discovery Channel for broadcast distribution.He is the creator and star of the popular web series 'Los Micro Burgueses', an absurd comedy essay that criticized the Mexican class clash. Los Micro Burgueses was presented at the Rotterdam film festival in 2012.Sebastian has a B.F.A. from the prestigious Pasadena Art Center College of Design.
