Russell was raised in Cleveland, Tennessee where he first took an interest in theatre as a sophomore in high school. At age 17, he spent a summer in New York where he performed Off-Broadway. Russell moved to Orlando, Florida in 2001 with a college scholarship from American Movie Classics. After college, he spent several years appearing on stage before moving to Los Angeles in 2011. In the few short years since moving to LA, Russell has appeared on screen with performances in acclaimed festival favorites: Being Doug, What Is This Night, twenties: the series, Some Like It Bot, and Kia Ora.
