He became famous in the 50s and 60s for his roles with Jeanne Moreau or Michele Morgan under the direction of Roger Vadim, Jean-Pierre Melville or Alexandre Astruc. In March 2004, one day after his 77th birthday, he comitted suicide by throwing himself under the subway in Paris.
