Mayte Valdes comes from a family of Cuban immigrants. She was born in Miami and raised in Buenos Aires. Inspired by classic Hollywood cinema, especially Cyd Charisse, Mayte began dancing at the age of six. Her professional debut on stage was "The Nutcracker" with the Miami City Ballet at the age of nine. She continued ballet trained in Argentina at the prestigious opera house Teatro Colon, transitioning to modern jazz a few years later.Mayte discovered the passionate dance of Argentine Tango as a young adult, making her debut in one of the biggest shows of all time: "Tango Passion." She toured around the world and met another tango dancer named Carlos Barrionuevo. They later married and moved to the USA to continue dancing and begin acting work in film.Mayte's film debut was in the short film "Nina del Tango," directed by Jason Eberly. It premiered in Los Angeles and New York and was the official selection in eleven international film festivals, including two Oscar-qualifying festivals. She also received a nomination for best actress at the Silent River Film Festival. Mayte's latest film "In the Ring," directed by Mesha Kussman, was included in the short film corner at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival. Show less «
