Born in Linz, Austria, as son of Joerg Kahler, a painter of the Austrian fantastic realism", who lived apart from the family in the north of Italy and inspired Mathias artistically already at the age of 5. Avoiding competition with his father, he didn't further develope his drawing talents and took interest in the art of acting cultivating a taste for the world of theatre and opera. His mother Veronica Polagnoli a great painter herself and an infant of a bourgeois Austrian family raised three children as a single mother . She gave the strong backup in Mathias efforts to an acting career. Mathias grew up in Seewalchen a beautiful summer resort in a historical Villa at Lake Attersee. One of the nicest regions of the famous Salzkammergut. He learned swimming, sailing, windsurfing, skiing as well as all skills of the farmers children around. A happy childhood out in the countryside. By the age of 13 Mathias spent a year in Vancouver Canada in Junior High School following an invitation of a families friend giving him a solid basis for the skills of the English Language. Back in Austria his will to become an actor was even stronger. He left school early and studied a few years at the Linz Bruckner-Conservatory" taking acting, dancing and singing classes . Very quickly he was casted for several local theatre production and eventually for a 2 years contract to the Baden-Baden theatre in Germany. In the years that followed he worked in all major plays produced by the Baden-Baden theatre company featuring Ferdinand" in Schillers Kabale und Liebe as well as in Shakespeares Midsummernights Dream" and later also Dostojevskis Raskolnikov" in a stage version of Crime and Punishment to cut a long list short, all in German Language. His first screen appearance was a TV-special with the entertainer legend Johannes Heesters in 1989. In 1992 Mathias moved to Vienna, Austria, from then on being home base for his further activities. He took several smaller parts in Austrian and German TV series as well as working as a production assistant, best boy, and agent for extras. In 1994 he was cast partner of Senta Berger in the successful Austrian TV Series Kommissar Rex which led to a series of roles in TV-series and in cinema in Germany and Austria. In 1998 he became a character in the TV-Hit-series Schlosshotel Orth which he stayed on for two years and was successfully sold all around the world. Ever since he has been part of numerous successful TV series and European feature film productions. In 2007 he appeared in the German telenovella - Wege zum Glueck. Today Mathias Kahler-Polagnoli lives in Vienna, Austria. Show less «
