David's third independent feature film,"American Cowslip" (2010) starred Diane Ladd, Rip Torn, Cloris Leachman, Bruce Dern, Val Kilmer and Peter Falk and was released in North America through Warner Bros. and E1. American Cowslip, in which David directed the legendary Falk in his last big screen appearance, took out top honors at the 2010 Albuquerque Film Festival.Following the success of American Cowslip, David penned the harrowing family crime drama "The Gift Horse", to which he is also attached as Director. David's debut feature, "Sweet Thing", and sophomore effort, "Intoxicating", were both well received critically, garnering invitations to multiple US and international film festivals. Both films were also distributed commercially worldwide and in the US, where "Intoxicating" received a limited theatrical run. David's work as a filmmaker often showcases his multi-faceted abilities as a director, cinematographer, editor and composer.A musician since childhood, Houston-born David's work in the visual medium began when he directed a music video for his former rock band "The Agency", while living in Austin, TX. The video caught the attention of the festival circuit,premiered in competition at the SXSW Film Festival and a directing passion was born. David has scored his previous films, creating and writing soundtracks with musicians ranging from rappers Coolio, Sen Dog of Cypress Hill and 2 Live Crew (Intoxicating), to Grammy Award-winning and Fight Club composers the Other Brothers for the superhero parody film "The Duo". David also scored Allie and Me for Michael Rymer.For American Cowslip,David invited acclaimed Soundgarden bassist Ben Shepherd to work with him on original compositions to form the studio band "Ultrarev" which was signed on an indie label, Feudal Records (2009).David photographed Sweet Thing, Intoxicating and American Cowslip and has lensed numerous other independent features including the multiple award winning film "The Preacher's Daughter". In 2013 David lensed "A Woman Betrayed" AKA "The Preacher's Mistress", as well as directed and shot several music videos including "Hey Hey" and "Darling" for Julia Othmer, with whom he has collaborated on tracks for his upcoming feature "The Gift Horse".In 2014 Mark David directed and shot his fourth feature film , "Jonny's Sweet Revenge" (2016) on which he also composed the score and edited. "Jonny's Sweet Revenge" reunited him once again with many of the cast members of "American Cowslip" including Ronnie Gene Blevins, Priscilla Barnes and Blake Clark. in January 2014 He also lensed the indie thriller "Battered". In 2015 and 2016, "Jonny's Sweet Revenge" won ten awards at film festivals, including Best Director, Best Film and an Audience Award. David went on to Direct the Drama/ Thriller, "Texas Heart", starring Lin Shaye, John Savage and Daniella Bobadilla (Anger Management, The Middle).
