Kaya was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba and is a member of the Sagkeeng First Nation. Her family originates from both Sagkeeng and George Gordon First Nations. Kaya graduated from the University of Winnipeg with a Bachelor's Degree in Indigenous Studies in 2012. Since graduating she has worked within the Indigenous community in Winnipeg, mostly in the area of youth homelessness. She also had the opportunity to travel to places like Namibia, Africa and Scotland, United Kingdom, and is always looking forward to new adventures and experiences.
