Julie grew up on a farm in the Blue Ridge Mountains of southwestern Virginia. Growing up on a steady diet of "Green Acres" and "The Beverly Hillbillies", she worked her acting and modeling way to NYC for a summer, was hooked, and never looked back. While living between Europe, Los Angeles and New York, Julie acted, did theater, and enrolled in a gorilla style filmmaking class where she wrote, directed, crewed and acted in multiple short films. After motherhood and divorce, she re-embarked on roles behind the camera as well as in front of it. On a trip to Cannes with two fellow divorcees, Julie, using only her hand held camera directed, shot, and appeared as herself in "Cannes Without A Plan," a reality pilot/feature documenting the three women's impulsive romp to the Cannes film festival. A previous collaboration with Jeff Kanew led him to edit and co-produce this comedic, insightful film dealing with divorce, sobriety and being a single mom. The film was as unplanned as the trip itself and proved that just because you are no longer in your 20's or 30's, your life is far from over. "Fiddlin" is Julie's latest directing endeavor. Along with her sister Vicki, they are filming this documentary about the multi-generational musicians who are keeping alive the Bluegrass and Mountain music from their home state and region. Julie is also developing and writing projects with Jill Sorensen. Their film company, Calamity J Productions, has many projects in the works. Show less «
