With the grace of a dancer and the charm of a southern woman, actress Julia Sanford brings herself to every role. Her career spans across the big and small screens, including appearances in the feature films "The Prestige" and "Something's Gotta Give"; and television shows "Mad Men," "Criminal Minds," "Monk," and "Scrubs" among others. Julia is quite proud of her stint as a member of a breast cancer support group on the ABC soap opera "General Hospital" because of the positive message the storyline offered to real cancer patients and survivors.Julia finds characters with a strong purpose resonate with her and often discovers them in the theater. Her portrayal of an American psychiatrist working with women in a Bosnian refugee camp in Eve Ensler's "Necessary Targets," gave her the opportunity to examine the horrors of war and its devastating effects on women. And, playing M'Lynn in the renowned "Steel Magnolias," offered Julia a chance to explore the loss of a loved one and then discover a way to move on with life.A shy child, this Birmingham, Alabama native found her calling from the first moment she stepped onto a stage. It was the study of ballet that Julia gravitated toward in the beginning, graduating from the University of Alabama with a degree in Theatre/Dance. She eventually made her way to San Francisco to study acting at the distinguished American Conservatory Theatre and from there it was a natural progression for the actress to move to Los Angeles for further career opportunities. Julia continues to live in Los Angeles with her husband and their three rescued cats. Show less «
