Born into a German family of Polish and Flemish heritage, Julia Effertz grew up in the Rhineland, speaking three languages; English, German and French. Following her intense curiosity about other cultures, Julia studied acting in Paris, Oxford and London, where her typically German sense of humor received a much-needed intercultural upgrade. Her work with the prestigious Oxford University Drama Society earned her rave reviews. Julia has played a wide range of roles, from Shakespeare all the way to Mark Ravenhill's physical tour de force "Pool (no water)", and to the "barely restrained force of nature" (The Cherwell), German left-wing terrorist Gudrun Ensslin in the one-woman play "No Memorial for Gudrun Ensslin". Following Julia's highly-praised empathetic portrayal of immigrant Ava in the play "Secret Boulevard", the London theatre critics nominated her in the category "Best Actress" at the 2011 Off West End Awards London. Julia made her television debut playing a Muslim convert in the drama Die Kinder meiner Tochter (2013) opposite Jürgen Prochnow (_Das Boot (1981)_, _Der Wüstenplanet (1984)_) and René Ifrah (_Homeland (TV Series 2011-)_) for German channel 2 ZDF. American mystery thriller _After Walpurgisnacht_, in which Julia plays opportunistic historian Dr Siebert, will be released in 2017. Julia loves to write and produce her own stories. In 2012, she released her first short film _Fanmail (2012)_, in which she played a bereaved fan hell-bent on revenge, opposite Michael Epp (_The Childhood of a Leader (2015)_, _Unlocked (2017)_). Despite her many dramatic roles, this inquisitive German likes to cuddle: her self-penned comedy short "Therapy Vlog" was voted among the top 11 at the 2016 Snowdance Filmfestival Speedcasting, and Julia was shortlisted for the "Marlene" acting award for her role as the unbreakable, eternally optimistic and joyfully adventurous 30-something single. Julia's latest self-penned comedic adventure, _Der Assi, die Frau Doktor und der kosmische Hug (2016)_, in co-production with Austrian director/actor Birgit Stauber's company Leyendas Filmproduktion is repped by Aug&Ohr Medien Berlin and aims to bring joyful hugs to the festival circuit in 2017. When not trying out a new French dessert, Julia loves to box as well as dance her heart out in fluent RP, tea cup in hand. Show less «
