Jarreau Benjamin is an English television, theatre and film actor of Caribbean, French and Irish decent. Born and raised in Manchester, Benjamin attended Birchfields Primary School and then Burnage High School.Benjamin's first acting role came at the age of 9 playing one of the three wise men in a school Christmas nativity play, he then went on to perform in numerous productions throughout primary school and high school.At a young age Benjamin became a keen Basketball player and went on to win numerous trophies and medals playing for his High School team. In 1996 Benjamin was selected to represent the England Youth Basketball Team.Benjamin's first acting role since childhood came in 2007, in a college production of Macbeth, this was followed by several short films and music videos, notably the Urban Music Award winner Bashy, 'Life' and Chase & Status'Time' ft Delia.In 2007 Benjamin gained a place at Salford University, where he honed his acting and voice skills, which would later show in the Universities 2009 Theatre production of Guadete. Benjamin was commended for his confidence and strong stage presence.Benjamin gained a B.A. Honours in Performing Arts from Salford University in 2010.In 2010 Benjamin performed as a soldier at the Lowry Theatre in Slunglow's site-specific production Beyond the Frontline.Benjamin's first film role came in 2009 in an independent feature film called Invisible Tattoo.In 2012 Benjamin appeared in a television commercial for Carex hand wash, he then went on to work along side Manchester actor Neil Bell in the Manchester Fringe Theatre festival production of UK sitcom Porridge playing McLaren, this was then followed by playing, a young mental health patient in Organised Chaos theatre production Diabetic Penguins, Benjamin received rave reviews for his performances treading the boards, subsequently leading to being offered a chance to attend a workshop at the Octagon Theatre Bolton held by English award-winning Director David Thacker.This followed two short dramas for BBC's Turn up the talent, script in hand Showcase event, filmed at BBC Media City which profiled new writing and acting talent in the North of EnglandBenjamin's latest work to date is playing 'co-working' in Homeboys ( BBC Sitcom Pilot ) and touring with the play : Diabetic Penguins at Buxton Fringe Festival and Greater Manchester Fringe which received more rave reviews.
