Greta Pope is an American singer, actress, songwriter, band leader, radio host, educator, and author. Greta Pope was born Greta Denise Pope in Cincinnati, Ohio to Margaret Wickliffe Pope, a businesswoman and William Allen Pope, a mechanical engineer. Greta attended Kennedy elementary and Woodward High School, where she sang in the Woodward High School Ensemble, a prestigious vocal group and played violin in the Woodward Orchestra. She was also a member of The Cincinnati Youth Symphony, where she played first violin under the baton of Cincinnati Symphony Concertmaster Sigmund Effron. She began playing piano at the age of 6 and violin at the age of 11.In 1970, she appeared in The Strawberry Statement. She auditioned for the role because the film addressed important social issues of the 1960's. She attended The Western College for Women where she participated in operas and musicals. After graduating from The Western College for Women with a liberal arts degree, Greta went to Miami University where she completed a Master of Music Degree in vocal performance and pedagogy. Her genres include Classical, Jazz, Pop and Broadway. She went on to Indiana University for post graduate Classical vocal study with the great Metropolitan Opera Soprano Eileen Farrell. Greta Pope holds a Ph.D. in Business Administration the University of Wisconsin.In 1981, she married Edward Lawson Wimp and they have one son, Edward Wickliffe Wimp.An Award Winning International Entertainer, Greta Pope and the critically acclaimed Greta Pope Jazz Ensemble have performed throughout Europe, the Far East, South America, the Caribbean, Canada and the United States. She is the two-time winner of the International Music Festival in Bucharest, Romania where she also served as an English speaking television commentator. Greta Pope is producer, engineer and host of ''Jazz and More!...with Greta Pope'', a weekly radio show that airs on Radio Harbor Country in Three Oaks, Michigan. Greta Pope toured Japan, Korea, the Philippines and Hawaii with the USO and toured the South of France as featured vocalist with the Northshore Concert Band.Greta Pope has recorded three studio recordings and many television and radio commercials. She owns and operates Greta Pope Entertainment, Inc., a company providing entertainment for Concerts, Festivals and Corporate Events. Greta Pope is the Founder and Director of The American Vocal Workshop, a mufti-disciplinary arts-in-education enrichment program that teaches music and life skills through singing. She is the author of Music, Money & You: Managing the Business. Greta Pope is an adjunct faculty member of the Chicago High School for the Arts and is a member of the Windy City Chapter of The Links, Incorporated where she is involved with bringing the Arts to under-served communities.
