Champion gymnast Eugen Mack was born on September 21, 1907 in the town of Arbon in Switzerland. Considered by many to be one of Switzerland's greatest gymnasts, Eugen won two gold medals in vaulting and team competition in the 1928 Olympics in Amsterdam. Mack went on to win gold medals in the all-around, pommel horse, vault, team, and parallel bars as well as a silver medal in the floor exercise at the 1934 World Championships held in Budapest, Hungary. Moreover, Eugen not only won silver medals in vault, team, the all-around, pommel horse, and parallel bars at the 1936 Olympic games in Berlin, Germany, but also won a bronze medal in the floor exercise. At the 1938 World Championships Mack won a gold medal in vault, a silver medal in floor exercise, and a bronze medal in the all-around. During his athletic career Eugen won nine Olympic medals -- two of which were gold -- and eleven World Championship medals, with six of them being gold medals. Mack died at age 71 on October 29, 1978. He was posthumously inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 1999. Show less «
