Recruited in the 2000 AFL draft, David Teague played 33 games for the North Melbourne Football Club before being traded to Carlton in 2003. In 2004 he won the John Nicholls medal as Carlton's best and fairest player as well as the Robert Rose Award, voted by players, as the most courageous player in the league. In 2007 Teague continued with the Carlton Football Club as development coach and as a playing-coach for the Northern Bullants. In 2011 Teague was appointed assistant coach at West Coast Eagles, moving to St. Kilda in 2013, then Adelaide in 2014. He returned to Carlton in 2017 as forwards coach, before taking over as caretaker coach mid-way through the season in 2019, becoming Carlton's permanent coach following the club's improved results.
