Danielle Herbert is an American actress/singer/songwriter best known for her work as "Babs" on the hit Netflix TV series, "Orange is the New Black." She is also associated with the hit Broadway show, "After Midnight," where she worked as the female vocal swing, and even got to star for an entire week in her own right. Originally from Philadelphia, she started performing at the age of 3, as a dancer. Both her parents were entertainers. Her mother was also a dancer, and her father was a jazz musician who's life was cut short, just days before Danielle was born, due to a drug overdose. At 16, she entered into the Miss Teen Pennsylvania pageant and won the talent competition for her powerful rendition of the song, "Home," from "The Wiz." She then went on to star in her very first musical as, "Luttibelle," in "Purlie" at the acclaimed Freedom Theater. From there she went on to study classical voice at Temple University's Esther Boyer School of music, where she received her Bachelor's degree. After graduating, she remained in Philadelphia, working primarily in musicals, and even received two Barrymore Award nominations for her work as "Anita" in West Side Story, and for work she did in the musical revue, R.E.S.P.E.C.T. Also of note, Danielle worked briefly as a background vocalist to Grammy winning R&B singer, Jill Scott, from 2005-06; and was apart of the well-known "Sugar Water Festival Tour", alongside Queen Latifah, Erica Badu, and Floetry.
