Anthony Greville-Bell joined the Hussars on the outbreak of World War Two and was wounded in a tank battle in North Africa in 1942. After recovering from his wounds, he volunteered for the Special Air Service and was awarded the Distinguished Service Order for his part in Operation Speedwell, a daring mission into German-occupied Italy in 1943. Greville-Bell later served in France, where he operated for a short time with Airey Neave, and finished the war as a captain in an Intelligence Unit. He rejoined the SAS in the 1950s, having ridden as a National Hunt jockey, and was posted to Malaya, but resigned his commission when his wife was killed in a car accident leaving him to bring up their two young daughters. After a spell working in the City of London, Greville-Bell turned his hand to script-writing with considerable success on both sides of the Atlantic. In later years he found success as a sculptor and derived enjoyment from playing in an amateur orchestra. Show less «
