Annemarie Hagenaars is a Dutch actress and performer. In March 2016 she moved to New York City to pursue her acting career in the United States. She has worked in a variety of theatre productions, film, TV, commercials, industrial and also in modeling.After her move she was instantly accepted to become a member of the WorkShop Theater Company where she met and worked with Broadway director Robert Kalfin (founder New York's Chelsea Theatre Center, winner of five Tony Awards, four Tony nominations and 21 Obie Awards). She worked with Mr. Kalfin again in the summer of 2017 in the Hamptons on Robert Karmon's play, "The Resettlement of Isaac", in which she played the lead double role of Anna/Anya. In June 2017 she worked on a reading of Charles Leipart's play "Chez Rikers" alongside Penny Fuller (two time Tony Award nominee, three time Drama Desk Award nominee, winner of an Emmy Award and five Emmy Award nominations) and Tony Roberts (two time Tony Award nominee). In April 2017 she performed in her first Off Broadway Actors Equity Association show "CasablancaBox" at HERE Arts Center in NYC, written by Sara Farrington and directed by Reid Farrington (technical artist for The Wooster Group from 2001-2008). "CasablancaBox" was nominated for two Drama Desk Awards 2017. Annemarie also performed in various productions with Radiotheatre NYC including "Ghosts of Christmas Past", "H.P. Lovecraft Festival" and the "Edgar Allan Poe Festival", all of which were directed and produced by Dan Bianchi (Drama Desk Award nominee, winner of 2 NY Innovative Theater Awards as well as 14 NYIT Award nominations). She worked with director Katrin Hilbe (winner of the Hilton Edwards Award for best direction and adaptation, winner "Best Opera Production 2012" New Orleans Opera) on a reading of Tom Block's play "Duck" for the International Human Rights Art Festival and on Sam Graber's play "Shooter". She also booked her first US commercial for make-up brand Jane Iredale and her first role in the American TV series: "Mysteries at The Museum". In November 2016 Annemarie became SAG-AFTRA eligible after booking her first Union film role. Besides roles with a Standard American Accent, she has done work in German, Dutch, Yiddish, Scandinavian, Polish, British, and Russian accents, also as a voice-over artist for CityVox NY.Annemarie's acting career in The Netherlands started after her appearance in the national talent show "Be A Moviestar". During the shoot of "Be A Moviestar" she met and worked with many celebrated Dutch actors, directors and filmmakers such as Monique van de Ven, Jean van de Velde, Antonie Kamerling, Angela Schijf, Tim Oliehoek and Ruud van Hemert. Inspired by the people she met on the show, she decided to apply for the most renowned acting schools in The Netherlands. After an intense audition process in 2006 she was selected for the acting program at the ArtEZ Institute for the Arts. In addition to acting, Annemarie was also a very talented student in the natural sciences and had finished a Bachelor's degree in Astronomy. After being enrolled in acting school for one year she decided to go back to the University to get her Master's degree in Physics and begin a career as a research analyst while pursuing her career in acting. In 2008 she won an award for Best Actress at the Rotterdam One Act Play festival. She also appeared in Michael Laub's "Portrait Series Rotterdam" and was seen in Dutch TV shows and a national TV commercial. In the summer of 2010 she visited New York City for the first time to study acting at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute. Back in the Netherlands she started writing her one-woman show "The Story of The Einstein Girl" directed by Sylvia Weening. In April 2012 Annemarie translated the script into English and went to visit New York City again to study with Michael Luggio. In the summer of 2012 the show was accepted into the Amsterdam Fringe Festival where she performed both the Dutch and American version. Between 2011 and 2015 she performed her self-produced show "The Story of The Einstein Girl" about thirty times in total.Since her move to New York City she has been studying the Meisner Technique at the Alan Gordon Studio privately coached and mentored by Alan Gordon himself.
