Amit Leonard was born in Jamshedpur,Jharkhand,India, and grew up in Ranchi,Jharkhand,India, and studied in Bishop Westcott Boy's School,Ranchi. His parents were teachers in the same school. He was an above average student. He was always a good athlete in school and dominated events like the Long Jump, High Jump and Hop Skip & Jump throughout his school and college life. In school he often won Essay writing competitions, Quizzes, Debates, Elocutions and Drawings and Painting contests at the city levels.He was also very good in sports. He excelled in sports such as Cricket, Soccer, Hockey and Tennis. He has played Tennis at State level championships. His family and friends thought that he would make a career in Sports. As a teenager he was also playing professional Cricket at the National Stadium in New Delhi,India, where he used to attend training and practise sessions. He has played Cricket for his school and at club levels.After finishing his High School from The Frank Anthony Public School in New Delhi,India, at the age of 18, he joined the Act One Art Group in New Delhi,India, from where he started his Acting career. He went on to do Amateur and Professional Theatre. He trained under Mr.N.K. Sharma, an eminent theatre personality in India, his only acting teacher till date. He learned the ropes of acting there, which included intense acting workshops, mental and physical exercises. He trained to develop individual skills and enhance talent in the areas of voice, movement and acting.In the year 2007, he was cast in a Supporting role in a 42 minutes short feature film titled Rehmaan Sahab Ko Phone Karna Hai (2008) directed by Sumeet Sachdev. The same year Loveleen Tandan was casting for Slumdog Millionaire (2008). He got a casting call and auditioned for Salim's part, the main lead in the Movie. He got shortlisted and his next round of audition process was with Danny Boyle, Slumdog Millionaire (2008) became his debut Movie, which was also his first Movie audition. He missed out on Salim's part because Danny Boyle went younger with the lead characters. But still, Loveleen Tandan and Danny Boyle went on to cast him in the Movie. Show less «
